The Travel Clinician:
The assessment and immunizations
will be provided by Sarah H. Schoof, Certified Family Nurse Practitioner.
She has earned the Certificate in Travel Health®
of the International Society of Travel Medicine. Her
education includes a degree in cross-cultural communication in addition
to her medical training. Sarah has been a nurse practitioner
since 1978, living and working in Kenya for 17 years. One
of her primary responsibilities in Kenya was providing advice, treatment,
and immunizations for Americans living in several countries of Africa.
Plan Ahead:
For a brief trip, plan
your appointment for 5-6 weeks before your travel. For extended
travel or relocating overseas, plan your appointment 3-4 months
before your travel. But even a last minute visit can be valuable
if you're traveling sooner!
Cost of Pre-Travel
Visit:
The cost of the pre-tavel
visit is $70.00 in addition to the cost of each vaccine administered.
All or most of the vaccines you need will be given on the day of
the Pre-Travel Visit. Patients returning for additional doses
of vaccines will not be charged again for the visit. We will
not provide immunizations, except to people who are completing a
pre-travel visit.
Paying for the
Visit:
Payment is required at
the time of service for the Pre-Travel Visit and immunizations.
Most insurance companies will not pay for this
visit or for many of the immunizations primarily because of planned
travel. A detailed receipt will be provided for submission
to a flexible spending account, or employer, in case these reimbursement
options are available to you. Cash, checks, and credit card
payments are accepted. You can check with your Primary Care
doctor's office to see if some of the vaccines you need are available
there, and check with your insurance company to see if any of those
would be covered if done at your primary care office.
